Week of 4/22

Hello Families,
 
Here is the schedule for the week: 
 
*On Monday, April 22 and Tuesday, April 23 students will be taking the Math MCA test in the morning. It will be important for students to get rest the night before and eat a good breakfast!
 
Language Arts: We will starting Unit 7, focusing on chronological text structure, explaining ideas in a text, interpreting visual information, and analyze reasons and evidence used to support points in text. 
 
Math: We will continue Unit 6, focusing on measuring angles and solving number stories with fractions and mixed numbers. 
 
Science: We will go back to our regular curriculum by starting Topic 8: Human Body Systems.
 
Social Studies: We will go back to our regular curriculum by starting Chapter 6: The Southeast Region.

Hello Families,
 
Here is the schedule for the week: 
 
Language Arts: We will be finishing up Unit 6, focusing on 
describing characters, summarizing, and finding the theme. We will take a test at the end of the week.
 
Math: We will continue Unit 6, focusing on finding the missing side length of a rectangle, division word problems, customary units of weight, and using a protractor to measure angles.  
 
Science/Social Studies: We will continue to take a break from both social studies and science to focus on practicing math facts and review for the Math MCA test.

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing break.

Language Arts: We will be reviewing previously learned concepts in language arts including comparing texts, finding main idea, poetry, text structures, and various grammar skills. 
 
Math: We will review Unit 5 and then take a test. We will also start Unit 6, focusing on division.
 
Science/Social Studies: We will continue to take a break from both social studies and science to focus on practicing math facts and review for the MCA test.

Language Arts: We will continue Unit 6 Week 3. We will be learning about summarizing, describing characters, and finding the theme of folktales.
 
Math: We will continue Unit 5. This week we will learn about line plots, angle rotations, symmetry, and multi-step word problems.
 
Science/Social Studies: We will take a break from both social studies and science to focus on practicing math facts and review for the MCA test coming up in April.

Language Arts: We will take a break from our regular curriculum to learn about figurative language and poetry.
 
Math: We will continue Unit 5. This week we will learn about adding tenths and hundredths and subtracting fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers.
 
Science/Social Studies: We will take a break from both social studies and science to focus on practicing math facts and review for the MCA test coming up in April.
 
Reminders:  
 
March 12: We are going on field trip to the Bell Museum! We will be leaving at 8:15 AM and returning around 1:45 PM. Please make sure your child comes to school on time this day.

Math: We will take the Unit 4 test and start Unit 5, focusing on fractions and mixed numbers. This week we will learn about what mixed numbers and improper fractions are and fraction decomposition.
 
Science: We will continue with Topic 7, Structures and Functions.

Hello Families,
 
I enjoyed meeting with all of you at conferences last week!
 
Here is the schedule for the week: 
 
Language Arts: We will continue Unit 5, focusing on reading texts about technology. This week we will learn about the problem and solution text structure, identifying reasons and evidence, and integrating information from two texts. 
 
Math: We will continue Unit 4 focusing on multi-digit multiplication. This week we will learn about finding the area of regular and irregular shapes and multiplying 3 x 2 digit numbers. 
 
Science: We will finish up Topic 6, The History of Planet Earth and start Topic 7, Structures and Functions. 
 
Reminders:  
 
February 14: We will have a Valentine exchange. We have 21 students in our class. Students are not required to bring Valentines, but, if they choose to do so, please ensure that a valentine is included for every student in our class. Cards can be store bought or handmade.
February 19: President's Day/No School
February 20: World Culture Day-Families may attend from 4:30-6:15 PM.

Language Arts: We will continue Unit 5, focusing on reading texts about technology. This week we will learn about summarizing, determining domain-specific words, and identifying the cause and effect text structure.
 
Math: We will continue Unit 4 focusing on multi-digit multiplication. This week we will learn about multi-step word problems and review frequency tables and bar graphs.
 
Science: We will continue Topic 6, The History of Planet Earth.

Language Arts: We will start Unit 5, focusing on reading texts about technology. This week we will learn about making inferences, determining meaning of domain-specific words, and the cause and effect text structure.
 
Math: We will continue Unit 4 focusing on multi-digit multiplication. This week we will learn about liquid measurements, money number stories, metric units of mass, and use the standard and box method to multiply numbers.
 
Science: We will start Topic 6, The History of Planet Earth.

Here is the schedule for the week: 
 
Language Arts: We will take a quiz on Unit 4, Week 1. We will also start Week 2. The skills we will learn about this week are asking questions, making inferences, and first/third person point of view.
 
Math: We will be continuing Unit 3. We will review what we learned about decimals through the thousandths place, rounding decimals, and comparing and ordering decimals. 
 
Social Studies: We will continue Chapter 5 learning about The Northeast Region of the United States.
 
Science: We will start Topic 5, Earth's Natural Hazards.
