Look at the Week April 22nd

 

Hello first grade families!

Math:

This week we will begin our final math unit! In unit nine we will review measurement and learn how to add and subtract two-digit numbers.  

Homework:

We will have math homework activity every night.

Language Arts

Reading:

This week we will continue unit nine. In unit nine we are learning about goods and services.

Language and Writing Skills: This week we will review pronouns. We will write a story about the life cycle of a butterfly.

Spelling/Phonics:

We will be making and reading /oi/ diphthong words.

Spelling words this week are; join, moist, point, spoil, choice, enjoy, cowboy, destroy, joy, & toy.  

We will take a spelling and reading comprehension assessment on Friday.

Life Science: This week we will continue learning and observing the life cycle of a butterfly. Last week our caterpillars moved into the pupa stage!

Social Studies: We will be learning about trading goods and services in the past and present.

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

Hello first grade families!

Math:

This week we will finish unit eight. We will review the units learning targets and take the unit assessment on Thursday.

Homework:

We will have math homework activity every night.

Language Arts

Reading:

This week we will begin unit nine. In unit nine we will learn about goods and services.

Language and Writing Skills: This week we will continue categorizing different objects. We will write sentences about people who do services in our community. We will review word endings and discuss how they change meaning of the words.

Spelling/Phonics:

We will be making and reading /ou/ diphthong words.

Spelling words this week are; shouts, rounds, houses, clouds, count, ground, town, now, our, & out.

We will take a spelling and reading comprehension assessment on Friday.

Life Science: This week we will continue observing the life cycle of a butterfly. Last week our caterpillars moved into the pupa stage!

Social Studies: We will be learning about wants versus needs and goods and services.

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

This week we will continue unit eight. In unit eight we are researching the sky. We will work on cause and effect of storms and explore the eclipse.

Language and Writing Skills: This week we will categorize different objects in to like and unlike categories. We will write cause and effect sentences.

Spelling/Phonics:

We will be making and reading “UR” controlled R words.

We will take a spelling and reading assessment on Friday.

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

We will also review fact families and partners of ten. This week we will work on adding 2-digit numbers and review telling time to the hour and half hour.

We will have math homework activity every night. Homework is mandatory and will be graded. Please make sure your student is completing their math homework nightly.

Language Arts

Reading:

This week we will be reading fiction stories and talk about the lesson the story teaches us.

Language Skills: This week we will learn about commas in a series.

Writing: We will write an option paragraph of our favorite book!

Friendship party: Feel free to send in cards, small toys or treats with your student on Wednesday, for our friendship party. We have thirteen students and two teachers in the classroom. You do not need to have your child put each student name on the cards. Just have your student write that it is from them by singing their name on the cards they will pass out to their classmates. This week we will complete unit five. In unit five we will be learning about place value, comparing numbers, and adding two-digit numbers.

Homework:

We will have math homework activity every night. Homework is mandatory and will be graded. Please make sure your student is completing their math homework nightly.

Language Arts

Reading:

We will learn about technology in the non-fiction texts we read and discuss.  We will work on comparing and contrasting the stories we study.

Writing:

This week we will become author’s and illustrator’s and create our own books.

Language Skills: This week we will be learning about prefixes.

Spelling/Phonics:

We will be making and sounding out soft G and C words. This week spelling words are; strange, race, giant, huge, city, circle, center, cent, brace, & space.

We will take a spelling and reading assessment on Friday.

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

Science:

We will continue unit three in science. We will become scientists and learn all about light and how it works.
