Look at the Week September 17th

Hello first grade families!

We have had a great first couple of weeks! We are enjoying getting to know each other and school routines.

Math: We will continue unit one in our Everyday Math curriculum. We will be reviewing skills learned in kindergarten.  We will be reviewing number sense, adding on number lines and tally marks. We will have math homework every day.

LA: This week we will continue our new Benchmark curriculum. We will be learning about living things and life cycles. We will be working on sentence structure while creating complete sentences. We will find the main idea of the stories we read. On Friday we will be taking our second reading comprehension assessment.

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

Reading Skills: This week we will be reviewing letter names and sounds, CVC words and making three letter words.

Science: We will begin our new science curriculum. We will be learning about life cycles.

Reminders:

Students will come home with a red homework folder daily. The side marked school needs to be completed and come back to school. The items on the home side should be taken out each night and left at home. Students will have a math activity to complete each night that is due the next school day. Completion of home work is required and graded.  Students will have a set of the sight words they need to learn kept in homework folder, please work on sight words nightly with your student.

Send a healthy snack with your student each day.

Make sure students have gym shoes daily. Students can leave an extra pair at school if they’d like.

Make sure you let the front office know of changes of bus or parent pick up changes.

Up Coming Events:

Grand Parents day Oct. 10th (deadline for families to submit RSVP forms to is Friday, September 22nd)
