Look at the Week December 11th   

Hello first grade families!

Math:

This week we will review length, measurement, ten more and ten less of a number, and addition/subtraction fact families.  We will also review skills learned so far this year.

Homework:

We will have math homework activity every night. Homework is mandatory and will be graded. Please make sure your student is completing their math homework nightly.

Language Arts

Reading:

We will compare and contrast characters in the texts we read, while identifying who is telling the story.

Writing:

This week we will write complete sentences with each kind of punctuation.

Language Skills: This week we will be working on root and base word endings.

Spelling/Phonics:

We will be making and sounding out three letter blend words. Spelling words this week are; spring, throat, threw, strong, scrap, scratch, splash, split, squids, & street.

We will take a spelling and reading assessment on Friday.

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

Science:

We will continue our science unit about sound. This week students will describe different sounds such as pitch and volume.

Reminders:

We go outside for recess twice daily, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. Students can leave boots and snow paints at school. Please make sure students are brining healthy snacks to school. Lately, I have had to tell students they may not eat the snack they brought to school because it was candy or cookies. Water is the only drink students are allowed to have in the classroom.
