Newsletter for Week of January 29th    

Hello first grade families!  

Math:  

This week we will begin unit six. In unit six we will be learning about telling time, adding two-digit numbers in story problems, and place value. We will also review fact families and partners of ten. This week we will work on telling time to the hour and half hour and review adding and subtracting doubles plus one.  

Homework:  

We will have math homework activity every night. Homework is mandatory and will be graded. Please make sure your student is completing their math homework nightly.  

Language Arts 

Reading: 

We will continue unit six titled, Stories Teach Many Lessons. We will draw inferences in the non-fiction stories we read.  

Language Skills: This week we will learn about singular and plural nouns.  

Writing: This week we will make sentences with singular and plural nouns.  

Spelling/Phonics:  We will be making and reading long E and U words. This week’s spelling words are; these, use, cute, Pete, here, fuse, mule, mute, fume, and cube.  

We will take a spelling and reading assessment on Friday.  

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.  

Reading at home:  

Please have your student read online on their Raz-kids account twenty minutes each night!
