Bio

My name is Jennifer Hodgman, this is my second year teaching at Athlos Leadership Academy. I am excited to be here working with your students! I graduated from St. Cloud State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I live in Ramsey, Minnesota. I am married and we have a son, who is in middle school. In my free time I like to spend time at the cabin and the lake. My family spends lots of time at the race track during the summer racing! I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I am looking forward to working with my students this year helping them grow and reach their goals!

Math: This week we will continue unit nine. In unit nine we will review measurement and learn how to add and subtract two-digit numbers.

Reading: This week we will continue unit nine. In unit nine we are learning about goods and services.  

Language and Writing Skills: This week we will learn about preposition words. Words such as; between, during, beyond, up, over & in. We will write complete sentences using preposition words.  

Spelling/Phonics: We will be making and reading /oo/ words. 

Spelling words this week are; bookshop, food, stood, room, scooted, good, took, cooked, cool, & soon.  

We will take a spelling and reading comprehension assessment on Friday.  

Life Science: Last week our pupas became adult butterflies! This week we will plant seeds and learn about the life cycle of a plant.  

Social Studies: We will compare and contrast wants and needs.  

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

Hello first grade families! 

Math: This week we will begin our final math unit! In unit nine we will review measurement and learn how to add and subtract two-digit numbers.

Language and Writing Skills: This week we will review pronouns. We will write a story about the life cycle of a butterfly.

We will take a spelling and reading comprehension assessment on Friday.  

Life Science: This week we will continue learning and observing the life cycle of a butterfly. We should have Butterflies emerging from our chrysalis’s this week!! The students are so excited to see the butterflies!

Language Arts 

Reading: This week we will begin unit nine. In unit nine we will learn about goods and services.  

Language and Writing Skills: This week we will continue categorizing different objects. We will write sentences about people who do services in our community. We will review word endings and discuss how they change the meaning of the words.  

Spelling/Phonics: We will be making and reading /ou/ diphthong words.

Life Science: This week we will continue observing the life cycle of a butterfly. Last week our caterpillars moved into the pupa stage!

Reading: This week we will continue unit eight. In unit eight we are researching the sky. We will work on the cause and effect of storms and explore the eclipse.  

Language and Writing Skills: This week we will categorize different objects into like and unlike categories. We will write cause and effect sentences.

Reading: 

We will learn about technology in the non-fiction texts we read and discuss. We will work on comparing and contrasting the stories we study.

This week we will become authors and illustrators and create our own books.  

Language Skills: This week we will be learning about prefixes.  

Spelling/Phonics:  

We will be making and sounding out soft G and C words. This week’s spelling words are; strange, race, giant, huge, city, circle, center, cent, brace, & space. Please study and practice these at home each night! 

We will take a spelling and reading assessment on Friday.  

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.  

Science:  

We will continue unit three in science. We will become scientists and learn all about light and how it works.

Reminders:  

We go outside for recess twice daily, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. Please make sure your student brings a winter hat, gloves, coat, snow pants and snow boots to school every day! Students can leave boots and snow pants at school. Please make sure students bring a healthy snack to school. Water is the only drink students are allowed to have in the classroom.
