Hello, my name is Jeleah Kreminski,
     This is my eight amazing year at Athlos Leadership Academy.  I am very excited to teach first grade for this upcoming school year! I was born and raised in Crystal Minnesota. I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a Pre-Kindergarten Endorsement from Metropolitan State University, specializing in Urban Education, and Public Achievement.  
      I currently live with my family here in Brooklyn Park. In my free time I love learning, spending time with my family, outdoor activities and teaching zumba at the gym.

Math:

This week we will continue unit five. In unit five we will be learning about place value and comparing numbers.

Homework:

We will have math homework activity every night. Homework is mandatory and will be graded. Please make sure your student is completing their math homework nightly.

Language Arts

Reading:

We will learn about technology in the non-fiction texts we read and discuss.  We will work on the central message of the stories we study.

Writing:

This week we will write complete sentences with each kind of punctuation.

Language Skills: This week we will be working on root and base word endings.

Spelling/Phonics:

We will be making and sounding out long O words.  

We will take a spelling and reading assessment on Friday.

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

Science:

We will begin unit two in science. We will learn how light works.

Hello first grade families!

Math:

This week we will review length, measurement, ten more and ten less of a number, and addition/subtraction fact families.  We will also review skills learned so far this year.

Homework:

We will have math homework activity every night. Homework is mandatory and will be graded. Please make sure your student is completing their math homework nightly.

Language Arts

Reading:

We will compare and contrast characters in the texts we read, while identifying who is telling the story.

Writing:

This week we will write complete sentences with each kind of punctuation.

Language Skills: This week we will be working on root and base word endings.

We will be making and sounding out three letter blend words. Spelling words this week are; spring, throat, threw, strong, scrap, scratch, splash, split, squids, & street.

LA: This week we will continue unit three in our Benchmark reading curriculum. We will learn about laws and the government. will work on the main idea of nonfiction text. We will be continue working on end punctuation, when to use capital letters, and creating complete sentences. We will be learning how to read and spell final consonant blend words. Math: This week we will be reviewing lessons we have learned so far this year. We will be learning doubles and practice counting on when adding.

Homework: We will have math homework activity every day. This is mandatory and will be graded. Please make sure your student is completing their math homework nightly.

LA: This week we will finish unit two in our Benchmark reading curriculum.  We will be reviewing what the character looks, feels, acts like, and something the character says in the story.  We will be continue working on end punctuation, when to use capital letters, and creating complete sentences. Parent Teacher Conferences

Please Schedule your students' conference today! 
Parent teacher conferences on Thursday, November 9th from 3:45 – 6:45pm and Friday, November 10th from 7:15am – 12:45pm. On Thursday, conferences will begin at 3:45pm with the last conference being scheduled at 6:45pm. On Friday, conferences will begin at 7:15am with the last conference being scheduled at 12:45pm. Conferences will be in 20 minute intervals.

Hello first grade families! Can’t believe its already the sixth week of school!

Math: We will complete unit 2 in math. This week we will be memorizing partners of ten, adding by counting on starting at the biggest number, finding number partners on a tens chart, and compare numbers while using tally marks in graphs. Friday we will take the unit two assessment.

Homework: We will have math homework activity every day. This is mandatory and will be graded. Please make sure your student is completing their math homework nightly.

LA: This week we will continue unit two in our Benchmark reading curriculum.  We will be reviewing what the character looks, feels, acts like, and something the character says in the story.  We will be continue working on end punctuation, when to use capital letters, and creating complete sentences. On Friday we will have a reading comprehension test and spelling assessment. Help your child spell three letter words with u as the middle sound, such as: cut, put, cup, cub, but, bug, hug, nut, sun, and mud. (Spelling assessment will not be in the grade book at this time).

Reading Skills: This week we will be learning to spell three letter words with short u.  We will make words with the oo sound. If your child dose not know their letter names and sounds PLEASE review them daily.

Science: We will be learning about patterns in animal behavior. We will continue to learn about the life cycle of plants. Science experiments: We have planted seeds, we will observe the plant life cycle as it moves through each state. We have been roll playing as adult parent birds. We made bird nests and will play out the life cycle of a bird.

Reminders:

We go outside for recess twice daily, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather.

Students will come home with a red homework folder daily. The side marked school needs to be completed and come back to school. The items on the home side should be taken out each night and left at home. Students will have a math activity to complete each night that is due the next school day. Completion of home work is required and graded. Students will have a set of the sight words they need to learn kept in their homework folder, please work on sight words nightly with your student!

Hello first grade families!

Math: We will finish unit one in our Everyday Math curriculum. We will be reviewing for the unit assessment Monday and taking the unit one assessment on Tuesday. Wednesday we will begin unit two. We will be learning about partners of ten this week.

Homework: We will have math homework activity every day.

LA: This week we will complete unit one in our new Benchmark curriculum. We will be learning how living things grow and change. We will also be describing characters in the stories we read. We will be working on end punctuation and sentence structure while creating complete sentences. We will be working on short o and spelling short o words. On Friday we will be taking our third reading comprehension and end punctuation assessment.

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night. Sight word levels will be tested this week. Each student has a goal to pass their sight word list by the end of the week.

Science: We will be learning how parents are similar to their off spring. We will learn about the life cycle of plants. Science experiment: We have planted seeds, we will observe the plant life cycle as it moves through each state.

Reminders:

Students will come home with a red homework folder daily. The side marked school needs to be completed and come back to school. The items on the home side should be taken out each night and left at home. Students will have a math activity to complete each night that is due the next school day. Completion of home work is required and graded.  Students will have a set of the sight words they need to learn kept in homework folder, please work on sight words nightly with your student.  Students will be tested on their sight words this week they should be passing on to the next level, if passed your student will come home with a new set of sight words to learn.

Send a healthy snack with your student each day.

Make sure students have gym shoes daily. Students can leave an extra pair at school if they’d like.

Make sure you let the front office know of changes to bus or parent pick up.
