Hello 4^th grade families,

In 4^th grade we’ve passed the first week of school and it went great! We covered a lot of ground already in our subjects and we’re off to a great start on a productive and fun year! So far, we’ve reviewed and are working on the classroom routines and expectations, along with already starting the curriculum for math, science, language arts, and social studies. Next week we will delve further into each of the topics, as well as create our classroom rules.

Math: We have been working on reviewing what we learned in 3^rd grade so that we have a solid foundation to work with when we start the new material. Last week we worked on remembering our addition strategies and this week we will work on subtraction.

Science: On Thursday, we started our first lesson in science. We discussed the different forms of energy to start and next week we will continue to discuss energy and motion.

Language Arts: We’ve been working on what it means to be a community of readers and how to be an active listener. We’ve also spent quite a bit of time reading throughout the day and writing about what we’ve read. This week we will dig deeper into why people write books and refine our skills at writing about several different topics

Social Studies: We briefly discussed geography and how to read maps on Thursday. Once we finish that, this week we will begin to cover the geography of the United States.
