Early Childhood Screenings

Early Childhood Screening Information

The early childhood screening is a simple check on how your child is progressing in his/her development. This screening for your 3- or 4-year-old is a fun, low-key means of identifying potential health or learning concerns while there’s still time to get help before starting kindergarten.

Areas screened include vision, hearing, thinking and communication skills, physical growth and coordination and social/emotional development. You’ll receive a full report on your student. Having this information early will help you in preparing your student for success in school.

When should my child be screened?

Children should be screened when they are 3 years old or before entering kindergarten.

Parents of students attending Athlos Leadership Academy’s PreKindergarten program must provide Athlos Leadership Academy a copy of their child’s screening within 90 days of enrollment.

Parents of students attending Athlos Leadership Academy’s Kindergarten are asked to provide Athlos Leadership Academy with a copy of their child’s early childhood screening prior to enrollment.

An Early Childhood Screening includes:

  • A check of vision, hearing, and developmental progress
  • A review of immunizations and family information
  • An individual review with parents of the child's progress and needs. It identifies needs that may require special attention before a child enters school.

How do I arrange for my child to be screened?

Athlos Leadership Academy does not provide screenings on site. Free screenings can be arranged through your home school district based on the location of your residence. Appointments are necessary. See below for district contact information. Additional options include scheduling screenings through your family physician or though Head Start. In lieu of a screening, parents have the right to submit, to the school, a signed and dated letter stating they conscientiously object to the Early Childhood Screening. In the event that you schedule the screening through a family physician, this Early Childhood Screening Summary sheet may be used.
