What Are We Learning?

2/20/2024
This week, we are finishing up our unit on dynamics and tempi. This unit has focused on being able to recognize and create works using the three categories of both dynamics and tempi. After students have had a chance to submit their projects and finish corrections, they will be moving on to a research project for Black History Month. This project will focus on black musicians and the impact they have had on the music industry and society.

This week, we are continuing our Black History Month research. Students will be completing a scavenger hunt on various black musicians and their contributions. Afterwards, they will have time to finish up any missing work to help prepare them for the end of the trimester.

This week, we are moving into a review on some of the topics we have previously covered. The first set will be focused on where the notes live on the treble clef and dynamics. Our review will lead us into our upcoming unit, where students will be able to create their own accompaniment to existing songs. If they choose, they may also come up with their own original creation!

Now that we have reviewed our note homes, durations, tempi, and dynamics, students will be moving into their last big project of the year! This will begin with notation practice! How do they use the notes and our durations to create their own rhythms?
4/8/2024
This week, we are continuing with our notation practice. We will be adding note homes to the equation, instead of durations only! How do they create a simple melody using the note homes and four prescribed durations?
4/15 & 4/22
We have been hard at work learning how to create our own songs on GarageBand! We started with keyboard and are moving into beat making. This will lead into them creating their own original songs, either on their iPads or on instruments. All of our hard work is about to pay off!

This week, we are going over the requirements for their original songs. They have six different options and will be able to pick a combination that suits them best. They will get to choose from instrument stations and from the options on GarageBand!
