Week at a Glance 3.20-3.24

Here is a look into this coming week. In Language Arts, we will continue learning about text features focusing on description. We will then begin learning about Response to Literature using Non-fiction text.  We will have a spelling test on Friday.  The words will be listed below.
 
In Math, we will continue Unit 5. In Social Studies, we will begin Chapter 8 which focuses on the Southeast States and Capitals. Your student will receive a packet for them. We will also be spending some time practicing for our MCA test coming up in April. 
 
Reminders: Monday March 20th, we will be having our Music Rehearsal. Please make sure your child brings in their recorder! On Tuesday, March 21st we will be having our Music Concert! This will also be a Free Dress Day for the students.  The songs may be accessed your student for practice in the previous post.

Week at a Glance

Here's what we're doing in our first week of Trimester 3! We will have a spelling test on Friday, the words will be listed below.
 
For Language Arts, we are learning about nonfiction text structures. We will focus on Problem & Solution and Compare & Contrast text structures.
 
In Math, we are working on subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. Students will take a quiz on Thursday.
 
We will be reviewing Chapter 7 for Social Studies this week. Students will take the Midwest States and Capitals test and Chapter 7 test on Wednesday! Please be practicing states and capitals so they are ready for their test!
 
Reminders/Announcements:
- Friday (3/17) is Hat Day!
- MCA tests will take place after Spring Break. We are taking our Reading MCA on Tuesday, April 4th. We are taking our Math MCA on Tuesday, April 18th.
- Our Music Concert is on March 21st. Students have been sounding amazing with their recorders!

Week at a Glance 3.6-3.10

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!  Here is what our plan is for this week:
 
On Friday, 3/10, we will not have school.  Tomorrow, (3/6) the students will be testing for their belt in Music.  They are able to complete this between 7:20-7:40 in the morning.  We will not have spelling this week, since it is a shortened week.
 
In Language Arts this week we will be looking at non-fiction text features.
 
In Math, we will continue to be looking at fractions.
 
In Social Studies, we will continue to learn about the Midwest.  Please be sure your student is studying their states and capitals packet at home!
 
We will continue to focus on MCA preparations during our science time.

This is our plan for the week!
 
We will have spelling for the is week.  The words will be listed below.
 
In Language Arts, we will be continuing to learn about author's purpose and take a test on Wednesday! We will then start Unit 4, which focuses on nonfiction text structures.
 
For Math, we will be learning about fractions! Students will be learning about mixed numbers, proper and improper fractions.
 
We are taking the next couple weeks focusing on preparing for the MCA during our Science time.
 
In Social Studies, we are starting chapter 7. Chapter 7 is about the Midwest! A packet will be going home with week with flashcards for the states and capitals.  Please help your student study!

Happy President's Day!
 
The World Culture Fair is tomorrow, February 21st.  Please have student's wear green or white in celebration of our country, Nigeria.  Of course, any cultural wear is also welcomed!  Parent's are welcome to come and learn about Nigeria at 1:30.  The student's have worked extremely hard preparing a presentation.
 
We will have a spelling test this week.  I will list the words below.
 
In Language Arts, we will be learning about Author's Purpose.
 
In Math, we will be starting Unit 5, which focuses on fractions.
 
We are taking a break from science until April.  We are doing this to better prepare for the MCA's!

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!
 
Here is our plan for this week!
 
On Tuesday, Feb. 14th, we will do a valentines day exchange.  Students may build a box or bring in an extra bag to bring their valentines home.  If your student wants to bring in something for their classmates, please be sure there is enough for all 21 students in our class.  They may bring in chips (small bags) to hand out and candy.
 
In Language Arts we will be working with poetry all week.  We will have spelling words this week, which I will list below.
 
In Math, we are finishing our mini division unit and taking a quiz on Thursday.  We will then start Unit 5 in math.
 
We are taking a break from Social Studies to focus on our World Culture Fair decorations.  We are doing the country of Nigeria!
 
In science, we will continue to learn about magnets and will review on Friday.

For spelling this week, we will do the words from last week and take the test tomorrow.
 
In Language Arts, we will be learning about Onomatopoeia and Alliteration.
 
For Math, we're review for Unit 4 and taking our test on Wednesday. We will then start a mini division unit.
 
For Science, we're taking notes on magnets.
 
In Social Studies, we will take our Chapter 6 and our Southeast States and Capitals test this week. Please continue to practice your Southeast States and Capitals for the test!

Here is the Week at a Glance for this upcoming week.
 
In Language Arts, we will continue learning about figurative language. We will continue working on idioms, hyperboles, personification, and begin alliteration.  We will have our spelling test this week on Friday.  I will list the words below.
 
In Math, we will continue Unit 4 focusing on multiplication.
 
In Social Studies, we will continue chapter 6 and review for our test next week.
 
In Science, we will be taking our test on circuits and begin our unit in magnetism.
Reminders:
- Money for the Valentine's Day fundraiser will be due this Tuesday January 31st. 
- Conferences will be held on Monday February 6th. Please make sure you have a time signed up through Pick a Time. I look forward to seeing everyone at conferences to discuss your child's success!

Week at a Glance 1.23-1.27

Here is the Week at a Glance for the upcoming week. The spelling words will be listed at the bottom.
 
In Language Arts, we will be finishing close reading poetry and taking a quiz on Monday. We will then transition into learning about figurative language. We're focusing on similes and metaphors this week!
 
In Math, we will continue Unit 4. Unit 4 is all about multiplication.
 
For Science, we will begin our Electromagnetism Unit. We will be learning about electricity and circuits this week.
 
In Social Studies, we are continuing Chapter 6 which is on the Southeast States and Capitals. Please make sure you are practicing your Southeast States and Capitals at home. We will be taking the test within the next two weeks.
 
Reminder: Keep bringing in money for the Valentine's Day Fundraiser. If you would like to purchase a flower for a sibling, friend, or a teacher bring in $1. Carnations must be purchased before January 31st.

Week at a Glance 1.16-1.20

Here is what our week is going to look like:
 
For Language Arts, we are continuing to practice our Poetry Close Reading. Students will take a quiz on Friday.  There will be no spelling this week.
 
In Math, we will be starting Unit 4! Unit 4 will be focusing a lot on multiplication.
 
For Science, we are finishing our States of Matter unit and taking a test this week. After that, we will start our Energy unit.
 
We are starting Chapter 6 in Social Studies this week. Students will be learning and practicing the Southeast States and Capitals. Flashcards will be sent home this week for students to practice their states and capitals!
 
Pajama Day is Friday (1/20)!
 
Reminders: We are doing our Valentine's Day fundraiser this year! If you would like to buy a flower for a friend, teacher, family member, etc. please bring $1 to purchase! The last day to purchase carnations is January 31st.

Week at a Glance 1.9-1.13

Here is our plan for the week! We have a spelling test on Friday, the words will be listed below.
 
We are learning about Point of View and starting a Poetry unit in Language Arts.
 
For Math, we are finishing Unit 3 and taking our Unit 3 test on Thursday.
 
In Science, we are continuing to learn about States of Matter. Please continue to bring in materials for our science project! We need popsicle sticks, yarn, vegetable oil, medicine syringes, plastic spoons, paper towels, disposable baking sheets, bag of sand, and plastic cups. Any donations are much appreciated!
 
We are reviewing Chapter 5 in Social Studies and will be testing on Friday. Please make sure you are continuing to practice the Northeast States and Capitals at home. The students will need to know where the Northeast states are on a map and the capital of that state.
 
We are doing Valentine's Day Fundraiser again this year! If your child is interested in buying a card and a carnations for a friend, teacher, family member, etc. please have them bring in $1. If they would like to purchase multiple carnations, please send them with the exact amount!

Welcome back fourth graders!
 
I hope you all had a wonderful winter break and enjoyed your time relaxing. Here is our plan for the week!
 
In Language Arts, we will start the week by doing a New Year's writing activity. We will then transition into Point of View by the end of the week.  There is no spelling this week since it is a shortened week.
 
In Math, we will continue our Unit 3 which focuses on fractions and decimals. We will be reviewing at the end of the week so we will be ready to take the test next week on Monday, January 9th.
 
In Science, we will continue learning about States of Matter.
 
In Social Studies, we will continue with Chapter 5 which focuses on the Northeast States. We will continue practicing the States and Capitals of the Northeast. Please make sure you are also practicing at home. The students will need to know where the states are on the map and know its capital as well!
