School Picture Day: October 1 2025
It is a free dress day for all students: no hats or costumes.
Hello First Grade Families!
Here is a look at our 5th week of school:
Take Home Folders: This Folder is to be sent between home and school in your First Grader's backpack. This week, you will find our Homework for the week along with a list with the week’s spelling words to practice at home.
Homework: Your student’s Homework Packet will be sent home every Monday. Your child may work on Homework each night of the week, and then return the Homework Packet on Friday. Please read with your First Grader for twenty minutes each night, and practice the weekly Spelling Words.
Language Arts: This week we will begin Unit Two in our Benchmark Curriculum. Unit To focuses on characters and story elements. We will be working on short “E” words, and we will work on writing complete sentences, using correct punctuation and capitalization. We will be describing the characters and the settings in the stories we read, and we will take a reading comprehension assessment on Friday.
This week spelling words are: leg, fed, neck, mess, sell, pet, bet, hen, red, & pen. Spelling test will be on Friday. Please practice these spelling words with your child nightly.
Math: This week we finish Unit One in our Everyday Math curriculum. Unit One focuses on foundational concepts for First Grade, including place value (especially tens and ones), number sense, and the development of addition and subtraction strategies within 20. We will take the Unit One assessment this week.
Social Studies: This week we will begin a unit on how cultures change over time.

Language Arts: This week we will continue learning about life cycles and how living things grow and change. We will be working on short “o” words. We will work on writing complete sentences and capitalization, and we will be describing the characters and the setting in the stories we read.
This week's spelling words are; hot, for, pot, mop, one, log, dot, crops, log, & frog. Spelling test will be on Friday. Please practice these spelling words with your child nightly.
Math: This week we will continue our Everyday Math curriculum, "Unit 1” focuses on foundational concepts for first grade, including place value (especially tens and ones), number sense, and the development of addition and subtraction strategies within 20.
Science: We will continue our science unit on life cycles.

This week's spelling words are: lids, kids, him, hit, sit, big, with, pick, kick, & little. Our spelling test will be on Friday. Please practice these spelling words with your child nightly.
Math: We will be working on our beginning of the year FastBridge assessments, as well as beginning our McGraw Hill Math curriculum. We are learning to count forwards and backwards 1-100 and solving simple addition problems. We are discussing math strategies we can utilize to help solve math problems.
Social Studies: We will be learning about citizenship: about being good citizens in our school and our communities. We will plan our goals and our hopes and dreams for the school year and the future.
