Week at a Glance!

Our Week at a Glance

April 27th-May 1st

Hello second grade families!

Please send your child to school with a healthy snack each day.  We will have a 10 minute snack time in the morning, so please send in something that your child can eat within that time frame.  Some healthy snacks include:  fruit, vegetables, popcorn, crackers, etc.  Please NO candy, donuts, cookies, etc. for snack.  Water bottles are allowed at school with water only!

Math: We are starting unit 10 this week! Focusing on math review of coins, adding/subtracting strategies, shapes, and angles. Along with working on some skills like multiples with some multiplication practice! 

Homework: Your student will have math and spelling homework each week to complete.  Homework will go home on Monday’s and needs to be completed and returned the following Monday May 4th.

*Please have your student read for at least 20 minutes every night*

Language Arts: We will be starting unit 10! We will be reading into how wind and water change the land. Along with the impact it has on change in nature around us in our everyday lives! Working on skills like predicting, looking back in a text, and using diagrams to help us understand what we're reading!

Spelling: We are working with words that have s ending sounds in them. This week our spelling words are… cat’s, boys’, Mom’s, doctors’, house’s, dogs’, sun’s, classes’, tree’s, children’s.

*We will be having our spelling test on Friday!”

Science:  We will be starting unit 6 in science! Focusing on habitats and how they impact wildlife. As well as seeing how animals adapt in their environment. Looking at what they need to survive and live along with how animal habitats are similar or different!

Math: We are continuing unit 8 this week! Focusing on geometry and arrays. Learning more about attributes, parallel lines, sides, and angles that make up shapes. Along with continuing to solve addition and subtraction word problems!

Homework: Your student will have math and spelling homework each week to complete.  Homework will go home on Monday’s and needs to be completed and returned the following Monday April, 6th.

*Please have your student read for at least 20 minutes every night*

Language Arts: We are continuing unit 8! We will be reading into how natural forces like wind and water shape the earth. Understanding how to find text evidence to better help students comprehend a story's message. Overall, engaging students in exploring the relationship between natural processes and human life! 

Spelling: We are working with words that have the -er, and -est endings in them. This week our spelling words are… faster, fastest, slower, slowest, newer, newest, colder, coldest, taller, tallest.

*We will be having our spelling test on Friday!”

Science:  We will be starting unit 5 in science! Discussing the environment and living things. Learning more about habitats, the adaptations animals need in those environments. Along with how these resources impact the environment.

Social Studies:  We will be continuing unit 5 in social studies! Discussing ideas of the American Revolution, what it entails, as well as how it shaped the United States!
