Ms. Phelps' Classroom
Course Description
Here’s what we are currently working on in second grade:
Language Arts – We are learning to make inferences by using story clues to help us learn more about the plot and characters in a text. We are also working on identifying and using various parts of speech and writing well-formed sentences.
Math – We are practicing a variety of skills such as fractions, addition and subtraction without regrouping, measuring, counting money, and creating and reading graphs. We are also working on applying these skills to solve problems. We are also reviewing place value and will soon begin working on 2-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping.
Science – We have been learning about the three states of matter and are beginning to learn about the water cycle and water changes states.
Social Studies – We have learned about urban, suburban, and rural communities, our state and country, as well as continents and oceans. We are beginning to learn more about goods and services and natural resources. We are also working on reading different types of maps.
