7th Grade Honors English Language Arts - Murley-Henspeter

Course Description

This trimester, the students will continue to analyze literary elements in fiction texts. In Trimester Two, students will take a deeper look at how the elements in literature interact. They will study how authors use language to make meaning. They will also continue to practice nonfiction reading skills as they synthesize information to learn from reading. A new focus will also be placed on analyzing poetry. Students will learn about various types of figurative language and sound devices in order to find meaning in poetry. Students will use reading strategies to analyze and comprehend poetry. They will also apply their knowledge of figurative language while writing poetry. Students will continue their study of new words through weekly vocabulary lessons. Through a blend of reading, writing, speaking and listening, students will maintain their focus on the development of authentic literacy.

Character with Character Creative Writing Assignment
Students will be writing a creative story that focuses on the development of a strong lead character. 
This week they are pre-writing and drafting. 
Next week they will work on the final copy. 
Stories will be due Friday November, 13.

Summative Assessment Retake Dates

The retake dates for 7th graders who decided to retake their summative assessment are Tuesday November 3 and Wednesday November 4.  Please remind your children to study their interactive notebooks and their previous text to prepare.
