My niece used the STEM ideas and built a boat out of foil that held 3 blocks.  This led to her exploring what items sink and float.

STEM at Home 1

Here's a page with several STEM ideas!  Choose one that sounds interesting to you and use whatever materials you have available.  There are at least two activities we did in group- how can you improve on your designs?  I'd love it if you would email me a picture of your project, the materials you used, and any other interesting information about the project!  I can't wait to see what you create!

Egg Drop

I’m SO bummed that we aren’t able to finish our egg drop project.  Feel free to do the egg drop at home with materials you have.  If you do, I’d love if you would email me a picture with your creation and let me know if your egg survived its fall!

January

This month students are excited to do a science fair project.  Students are choosing their project topics, coming up with questions, and designing an experiment to test their hypothesis.  They'll be showing off their projects at conferences on January 27 in room 204 (Ms. Hird's room)!

December

We started this month by reading "One Plastic Bag" and learning about Isatou Ceesay's creative solution to a problem with plastic bags.  Similarly to Isatou, we made plastic bag bracelets and then got creative about what else we could make from plastic bags.

The rest of the month will be spent understanding coding.  We'll start with some hands-on directional coding lessons and practice and then get to put our coding skills to the test with the LightBot Hour app.

We started off our year with Selfie Sculptures!  Each color and type of fold told something about ourselves.  Students then used their papers to create a sculpture piece.  They look so cool hanging on the wall!
