Week of 10/13

Hello 3rd grade families,
 
Hope you've had a relaxing weekend. See below for this week's schedule and important dates.
 
Agenda
 
Reading/Writing: This week we are reading fiction stories and
practicing going back into the story to find our answers. We
are also reviewing suffixes and starting possessive plurals.

Math: We are continuing learning different strategies for
solving multiplication problems.

Science: We will be finishing our opinion piece on travel to
space and will learn about the Mars rover.

Social Studies: We will wrap up learning about Community with the creation of our own community posters and start  learning about the
land and water on Earth. 
 
 
Spelling- No spelling this week due to no school on Thursday and Friday
 
Important Dates
- Oct 16-17th: No School (MEA)
- Oct 28th: BINGO for Books
- Oct 29th-30th: Conferences (an email about signing up will be sent out from the school soon.)
- Oct 31st: Super Hero free dress day

Reading/Writing: This week we are reading fiction stories and
talking about point of view and what a character might be
thinking. We are also learning about suffixes and spelling plural
words.

Math: We are introducing multiplication this week, focusing on
counting equal groups.

Science: We will continue learning about the moon. Look for
the moon in the night sky and talk about how it is changing.
We are also working on an opinion writing piece about
whether we would like to be astronauts.

Social Studies: We will be reviewing our communities unit and
taking a quiz. 
 
Spelling list:

Week of 9/29

Hello 3rd grade families!
This is the first of my weekly posts which will provide you with information on our plan for 3rd grade for the week. This will include information like what lessons we'll be covering, our spelling list, and any important events that would be coming up. Please make sure to subscribe on my class page so that you receive this post via email!
 
 
Agenda
Homework is sent home on Monday and due on Friday! Make sure to check in with your child to see that it gets done, otherwise they have to spend time on Friday working on it! If you are looking for extra work for them, you can have them log in to IXL and practice lessons. Please reach out if you need login codes.
 
Reading/Writing: This week we are reading fiction stories and
talking about main idea and inferences. We are also learning
about suffixes and spelling plural words and beginning the construction of our opinion essay about space.

Math: We are reviewing our skills so far this year and we will
be taking a math test at the end of the week. Topics to be covered will be place value, comparing numbers, addition, subtraction, and rounding

Science: We will continue learning about the moon. Look for
the moon in the night sky and talk about how it is changing.

Social Studies: We will be focusing on the different types of
communities.
 
Spelling List
Each week I send home a spelling list with the students on Monday and they take a quiz on Friday. I'll also be posting the word list, see below:
