Sept. 26-30th

Hello 1st Grade Families,

We have had a great start to the school year! We have enjoyed getting to know each other, school rules and routines.

Important Reminders:

Homework:

Students will have homework daily. Please check their homework folder nightly. Items in the 'stay home' side of the folder please take out and keep at home. Items in the 'bring back' side of the folder need to be completed and sent back to school the next day. Students will also typically have one math activity worksheet to complete every night and return to school in the morning. Please have your child reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

Snack:

We have snack very day, please send a healthy snack with your students daily.

Gym:

We have gym every day, please make sure students have gym shoes at school. Students can leave a pair of shoes at school for gym if you’d like.

Weather:

Please prepare for MN weather, most days we will go outside for recess sometimes twice.

Behavior:

Please remind your child to listen and follow school rules. If students are breaking school rules they will be held accountable. Practicing following school rules, missing recess time, parent phone calls and spending time with the school behavior team (SST), could be a few of consequences.

This Week...

Math: We will continue to work on representing numbers using number lines, counters, and number grids. Students will also be adding and subtracting as well as comparing numbers. We will begin Unit 2 mid-week. The beginning of unit 2 focuses on partners of 10 as well as the turn-around-rule.

ELA: We will continue to learn about character traits, describing the setting and characters in a story, and introducing Beginning, Middle, and End. We will be assessing Character using the graphic organizer and setting (schedule permitting).

Social Studies: We have discussed that good citizens are responsible, with helping hands, careful listening ears, kind words, and thinking about good choices. We will be taking a good citizen assessment this week. Then start to learn about the flag and presidents.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

Have a great week!
