Math:

This week we will be reviewing and taking the unit 8 math test.

Homework:

We will have math homework activity every night.

Language Arts

Reading:

This week we will continue unit nine. In unit nine we are learning about goods and services.

Language and Writing Skills: This week we will review pronouns. We will write a story about the life cycle of a butterfly.

Spelling/Phonics:

We will be making and reading /oi/ diphthong words.

Spelling words this week are; join, moist, point, spoil, choice, enjoy, cowboy, destroy, joy, & toy.  The bonus word is boy.

We will take a spelling and reading comprehension assessment on Friday.

Life Science: This week we will continue learning and observing the life cycle of a butterfly. Last week our caterpillars moved into the pupa stage!

Social Studies: We will be learning about trading goods and services in the past and present.

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

Language Arts

Reading:

This week we will continue unit eight. In unit eight we are researching the sky. We will work on cause and effect of storms and explore the eclipse.

Language and Writing Skills: This week we will categorize different objects in to like and unlike categories. We will write cause and effect sentences.

Spelling/Phonics:

We will be making and reading “UR” controlled R words.

We will take a spelling and reading assessment on Friday.

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

This week we will begin unit eight. In unit eight we will learn about geometry. This week we will build shapes and talk about defining attributes. We will learn about halves and fourths of shapes.

Reading:

This week we will continue unit eight. In unit eight we are researching the sky.

Language and Writing Skills: This week we will learn about adjectives and continue working on pronouns. We will write describing sentences with adjectives!

Spelling/Phonics:

We will be making and reading "or" words. This week’s spelling words are; order, orbit, story, storm, roar, soar, more, store, floor, snore and the bonus word is pour.

We will take a spelling and reading assessment on Friday.

March 25-29th Spring Break- No School

This week we will continue unit seven. In unit 7 we will be learning about subtraction strategies and attributes of shapes. This week we will have a subtraction quiz.

We will have math homework activity every night.

Reading:

This week we will finish unit seven, learning about the past, present and future.

Language and Writing Skills: This week we will write stories about things that have happened in the past.

Spelling/Phonics:

We will be making and reading long vowel i words. This week spelling words are; high, night, bright, buy, guy, cry, lie, tie, idea, item and Bonus word (pie).

We will take a spelling and reading assessment on Friday.

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

Reading at home:

Please have your student read online on their Razkids account twenty minutes each night!  If you need any paper books for you child to read, please let me know!  If you child returns the book log complete with parent signature, they can pick out a prize from our prize box. :)

We will be making and reading long vowel o, oa, ow, & oe, team words. This week spelling words are; old, mold, cold, scold, grow, snow, road, coat, no, & go.

We will take a spelling and reading assessment on Friday.

This week we will be reading fiction stories and talk about the lesson the story teaches us.

Language and Writing Skills: This week we will write sentences using commas in a series. A quiz on this skill will be given.

Spelling/Phonics:

We will be making and reading variant vowel team words. This week spelling words are; coin, oil, clown, crowd, draw, saw, mouth, mound, & chief.

We will take a spelling and reading assessment on Friday.

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

Help us celebrate diversity at Athlos! The World Fair will take place on Tuesday, February 20th from 4:30-6:15pm. Families can come to school and travel around the world learning about a different country in each classroom!

We will also review fact families and partners of ten. This week we will work on adding 2-digit numbers and review telling time to the hour and half hour.

We will have math homework activity every night. Homework is mandatory and will be graded. Please make sure your student is completing their math homework nightly.

Language Arts

Reading:

This week we will be reading fiction stories and talk about the lesson the story teaches us.

Language Skills: This week we will learn about commas in a series.

Writing: We will write an option paragraph of our favorite book!

Spelling/Phonics:

We will be making and reading long vowel words. This week spelling words are; cutie, lie, real, leaf, drain, grain, soak, coat, keep, & meet.

We will take a spelling test on Friday.

Upcoming events:

Feb. 14, Flower Delivery and Classroom Friendship party. Wednesday will be a PINK and RED Free Dress Day for all students!

Friendship party: Feel free to send cards, small toys or treats with your student on Wednesday, for our friendship party. We have 15 students and 1 teacher in the classroom. Please do not have your child put each student name on the cards. Just have your student write that it is from them by signing their name on the cards they will pass out to their classmates. Thanks!

We will learn about technology in the non-fiction texts we read and discuss. We will work on comparing and contrasting the stories we study.

Writing:

This week we will become author’s and illustrator’s and create our own books.

Language Skills: This week we will be learning about prefixes.

Spelling/Phonics:

We will be making and sounding out soft G and C words. This week spelling words are; strange, race, giant, huge, city, circle, center, cent, brace, & space.

We will take a spelling and reading assessment and place value quiz on Friday.

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

Science:

We will continue unit three in science. We will become scientists and learn all about light and how it works.

We go outside for recess twice daily, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. Students can leave boots and snow pants at school. Please make sure students are bringing healthy snacks to school. Water is the only drink students are allowed to have in the classroom.

This week we will write complete sentences with each kind of punctuation.

Language Skills: This week we will be working on root and base word endings.

Spelling/Phonics:

We will be making and sounding out long O words.  SPELLING WORDS WILL BE SENT HOME ON MONDAY!!

The words are: broke, spoke, woke, joke, boat, coat, snow, how, open, toe

We will take a spelling and reading assessment on Friday.

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

Science:

We will begin unit two in science. We will learn how light works.
