Here is a snapshot of our week ahead!

Math: We will be reviewing addition and subtraction word problems and different ways to solve them as well as number pairs of ten and doubles.

Homework:  Please continue to assist your child in finishing and returning their homework. 

Language Arts: We will be reviewing reading comprehension and sentence structure. We will have an assessment on both this week. 

No Spelling this week. Since this is the last week before the end of the tri, Spelling time will be used for catching students up on assessments that they have missed. We will also be using this time for science assessments.

Here is a snapshot of our week ahead!

 

Math: We will be doing Halloween themed math fun on Monday and Tuesday! The rest of the week, we will be continuing unit 3 finding patterns in numbers. 

Homework:  Please help your child finish math homework!  It is always a review of what we have learned in class.

Remember: Homework is mandatory and graded. Homework is an important tool to help create neuro-pathways and help develop responsibility.

 

Language Arts: We will be doing group work on Monday and Tuesday--practicing working together. We will also be practicing our story elements and be introduced to the central message.

In celebration of this beautiful fall we have accomplished together, on Monday, October 31, we will be hosting a "fall celebration" in classrooms. Students and staff are welcome to dress up as their favorite animal, color, superhero, food, sparkly princess, book character, sports hero, or anything else appropriate. We just ask that students not wear violent costumes and no weapons or tools of any kind! It is a time to celebrate our hard work this fall and have some fun!!!! family members who dress up during AM drop off and PM pick up, we will be passing out treats to parents/ guardians during these times!

Math: We will be Starting Unit 3 and working on various tools to help us count. 

Homework:   I will also be sending home home links 3-3, 3-4, lesson 3-4 (it is a two day lesson and I am going to send home a review sheet), and 3-5. Remember: Homework is mandatory and graded. Homework is an important tool to help create neuro-pathways and helps teach responsibility!

 

Language Arts: We will be practicing our retelling skills and we will be reviewing nouns and verbs. Our noun assessment will be on Friday.

Here is a snapshot of our week ahead!

 

Math: We will be reviewing skills taught in unit 1 and 2 this week. 

Homework:  Homework is mandatory and graded. Homework is an important tool to help create neuro pathways and teach responsibility.  There will be NO HOMEWORK on Wed this week :)

 

Language Arts: We will be reviewing character, setting, and beginning, middle, and end. We will also be reviewing vowel sounds. On Wednesday, we will be having a reading party!

Homework: Please practice your student's sight words and read for 10-20.  I will be testing sight word knowledge next week!

Oct 10-14

Here is a snapshot of our week ahead!

 

Math: We will be continuing on in unit 2. Children will continue to work with change-to-more and change-to-less situations using change diagrams. We will be using number models to represent such situations. We will be reviewing unit 2 and having a Unit 2 test on Friday.

Homework: I will be sending home home links  2-9, 2-10, and 2-11through the week. We will have a practice test on Thurs and Math Test on Friday!  Remember:  Homework is an important tool to help your child be more responsible.  Thanks for your help to remind your child daily to do their homework!

Language Arts: We will be reviewing character, setting, and beginning, middle, and end. We will also be introduced to main events.

Homework: Please practice your student's sight words and read for 20 minutes at home each night. 

This week's spelling words are:

Homework: Please practice the spelling words nightly. A great way to make it fun is repeat after me game while driving in the car :)

Science: We will be starting our first science unit-- we will be exploring different kinds of rocks.

Oct 3-7

Here is a snapshot of our week ahead!

Math: We will be continuing on in unit 2-- learning about tally marks, tens frames, and partners of 10!  

Homework: I will be sending home addition memory cards. Please practice these for addition fluency. I will also be sending home home links  2-4, 2-5, 2-6, 2-7, and 2-8 through the week. Remember: if a student does not bring their homework back completed, they are expected to do 2 pages the following evening. Homework is an important tool to help create neuro pathways and help with responsibility.

Language Arts: We will be reviewing character and setting and will being to look at beginning, middle, and end. We will also be introduced to author's message

Homework: Please practice your student's sight words and read for 10-20 minutes at home each night. 

Social studies: We will be talking about government and the three branches.

Sept. 26-30th

Hello 1st Grade Families,

 

We have had a great start to the school year! We have enjoyed getting to know each other, school rules and routines.

 

Important Reminders:

Homework:

Students will have homework daily. Please check their homework folder nightly. Items in the 'stay home' side of the folder please take out and keep at home. Items in the 'bring back' side of the folder need to be completed and sent back to school the next day. Students will also typically have one math activity worksheet to complete every night and return to school in the morning. Please have your child reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

Snack:

We have snack very day, please send a healthy snack with your students daily.

Gym:

We have gym every day, please make sure students have gym shoes at school. Students can leave a pair of shoes at school for gym if you’d like.

Weather:

Please prepare for MN weather, most days we will go outside for recess sometimes twice.

Behavior:

Please remind your child to listen and follow school rules. If students are breaking school rules they will be held accountable. Practicing following school rules, missing recess time, parent phone calls and spending time with the school behavior team (SST), could be a few of consequences.  

This Week...

Math: We will continue to work on representing numbers using number lines, counters, and number grids. Students will also be adding and subtracting as well as comparing numbers. We will begin Unit 2 mid-week. The beginning of unit 2 focuses on partners of 10 as well as the turn-around-rule. 

ELA: We will continue to learn about character traits, describing the setting and characters in a story, and introducing Beginning, Middle, and End. We will be assessing Character using the graphic organizer and setting (schedule permitting). 

Social Studies: We have discussed that good citizens are responsible, with helping hands, careful listening ears, kind words, and thinking about good choices. We will be taking a good citizen assessment this week. Then start to learn about the flag and presidents.

Math: We will be diving into our first unit which will involve looking at simple addition problems, comparing as well as representing numbers. 
 
ELA: We will be focusing on character traits this week in language arts. We will spend time discussing our school character traits such as self-control, initiative, etc. We will also be looking at book characters and what the look, feel, say, and do in a story to help better describe the character. 
 
Social Studies: This week will complete our hopes and dreams as well as what it looks like to be a Good Citizen!

  • Send school supplies with student (if you have not yet done so)
  • Sign up for our classroom webpage
  • Send a healthy snack and gym shoes daily
  • Work on sight words and read with your student daily.
  • Check your student’s folder for homework (Math homework may take a week or two to begin).
First Week of School:
 
Math: We will be starting the year by learning our lunch codes, taking a Beginning of the Year math inventory to see where each student is currently at, and reviewing our numbers up to 20. The focus will be to complete simple addition problems as well as identify tens and ones. 
 
ELA: The focus to build student relationships in the classroom. We will be reading books that celebrate their uniqueness and how it makes our class a family. This weeks read aloud books are A Letter from your Teacher, Our Class is a Family, The Name Jar, and Chrysanthemum.
 
Social Studies: We will be building our classroom community and what it looks like to be a respectful student and friend at school.
