Here is a snapshot of our week ahead!

Math: We will be wrapping up Unit 7 with a test at the end of the week. Please continue to practice fact families, function machines, and review shapes. 

Remember: Homework is mandatory.

Language Arts: We will be reviewing main idea and key details. Our assessment will be on Wednesday.

THERE IS NO SPELLING THIS WEEK.

Grammar: We will be working on adjectives and parts of speech.

Social Studies: For the rest of the social studies unit, we will be focusing on comparing things from long ago compared to today.

This week in first grade...

Math: We will be continuing Unit 7 focusing on find the rule using functions machines and learning about shape attributes. 

Language Arts: We will continue learning about Americans from our history and why they are considered great Americans. As students learn about these historical people we will also discuss the main idea in a story as well as compare their lives to our own. 

Spelling: love, then, house, year, to, I, as, send, alone, lone

Please make sure students are completing their homework daily. This includes books that may be sent home with students to read. 

March 13th-17th

 

Here is a snapshot of our week ahead!

Math: We will be learning about fact families/triangles. We will be practicing different strategies to subtract and different attributes of shapes. 

Remember: Homework is mandatory. If your student does not complete missing homework, they will need to complete it during fitness time. 

Language Arts: We will be learning about historical figures in our upcoming unit such Benjamin Franklin, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Jackie Robinson.

Week of March 6-9

March 6-10th

 

Here is a snapshot of our week ahead!

Math: We will be starting unit 7. We will be practicing different strategies to subtract and different attributes of shapes. 

Remember: Homework is mandatory. If your student does not complete missing homework, they will need to complete it during fitness time. 

Language Arts: We will be publishing our animal paragraphs and sharing them with the class. 

There is no spelling this week-- practice sight words!!

Grammar: We will be learning about commas in a series. 

Science: We will be finishing up our paragraphs.

Week of Feb 27th- March 3rd

Hello!
 
I hope every one enjoyed the past few snow days and stayed safe and warm. Here is an overview for the week of February 27th.
 
Math: Review Monday and Tuesday with a test on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday we will be reviewing graphs.
 
ELA: We are going to be researching about an animal and then using our research reports to form an informative paragraph. 
 
Science: We will be wrapping up our animal unit with a test early/mid week. 
 
Language: We will be learning about suffixes.
 
Spelling: Here are our week 13 words: floor, yes, low, soft, stands, stand, yard, bring, tell, five.
 
**The end of Trimester II is on 3/9. Please make sure any missing math homework is completed and returned. Please also be reading and practicing sight words at home with your student. Thanks!

Week of Feb. 7-10

Here is a snapshot of our week ahead!

 

Math: We will be starting unit 6. This week we will be focusing on telling time. 

Homework:  Please continue to practice the addition flash cards for addition fluency. This week, I will be assigning home links 6-1, 6-2, 6-3, and 6-4.

Remember: Homework is mandatory and graded. Homework is an important tool to help create neuro-pathways. If your student does not complete missing homework, they will be doing it during fitness or recess time. 

Language Arts: We will be reviewing character, setting, beginning, middle and end, cause and effect and main idea.

We will be having our spelling test from last week on Thursday so keep practicing!  NO NEW WORDS FOR THIS WEEK!

 

Grammar: We will be talking about prefixes, suffixes, and base words. We will be having two assessments on Thursday and Friday. Then, we will be practicing writing sentences and paragraphs. 

 

Science: We will be starting life science unit.

FEB. 7-10: I love to read- parent readers

FEB. 14: Valentines Day and flower delivery

Other reminders and notes:

On February 14th, we will be having a Valentine's day exchange. We will be decorating bags in class and we will be passing around Valentines. If your student would like to bring in a treat to share with everyone, or a little toy, they are welcome! If your child would like to bring in candy, that is fine. However, we will not be eating any here at school. It all has to be eaten at home.

Conference sign up and Stuffed animal/Blanket day!!

Hello 1st grade families,
Our class has worked hard to get 75 class shout outs and we want to CELEBRATE!  On Friday, February 3rd, your child my bring a small stuffed animal or blanket to school!  Please make sure it can fit inside their backpack.
 
If you have not yet done so schedule your students conference ASAP!!!

Homework:  Please continue to practice the addition flash cards for addition fluency. On MON, your child will have homework for you!!  Please complete it and send it back to school.

Math: We are just starting our new math unit-- unit 5, all about place value. 

Homework: We will have math homework every night this week. 

Language Arts: We will be starting a new unit that focuses a lot on our feelings and how we can use Athlos Character traits to handle those feelings well. We will find cause and effects in the stories we read this week.
