Hello first grade families!

We will have math homework activity every night. Homework is mandatory and will be graded. Please make sure your student is completing their math homework nightly.

We will compare and contrast characters in the texts we read, while identifying who is telling the story.

Writing:

This week we will write sentences with each kind of punctuation.

Spelling:

Spelling words this week are; whip, when, whale, match, lunch, crunch, beach, chill, check, & chase.

We will take a spelling and reading assessment on Thursday.

Homework: Make sure your child is reading and working on sight words for at least twenty minutes each night.

Science:

We will begin a science unit about sound. This week students will describe different sounds such as pitch and volume. Also we will explore how sound helps us communicate.

Please have your student read online on their Razkids account.

Reminders:

We go outside for recess twice daily, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. Students can leave boots and snow paints at school. Please make sure students are bringing healthy snacks to school. Lately, I have had to tell students they may not eat the snack they brought to school because it was candy or cookies. Water is the only drink students are allowed to have in the classroom.
