Hello Families,
 
Here is a look at our week:
 
Language Arts: We will be learning about Author's Purpose this week.
 
Math: We will be finishing up division and starting Unit 5.
 
We will be focusing on MCA Prep in both science and social studies for the rest of the Trimester.
 
Reminders:
The World Culture Fair is tomorrow. Please have students wear red, yellow, or any other outfit that represents China. It will be so much fun to learn about different cultures and share what we've about China!

Hello Families,
 
Here is a look at our week:
 
Language Arts: We will be focusing on writing the final drafts of our free verse poems, reviewing Unit 3, and then taking the Unit 3 Test on Friday.
 
Here is our spelling list:

Math: We will continue learning and practicing long division this whole week. Students will take a quiz on Friday.

Social Studies: We will finish up Chapter 6 by reviewing. On Thursday we will take the Southeast States and Capitals Test. On Friday we will take the Chapter 6 Test. 
 
Reminders:
-Red and Pink Day/Free Dress Day is on Tuesday, February 14. Students may also bring Valentine's for the class.
-Red, White, and Blue Day/Free Dress Day is on Friday, February 17.
-The World Culture Fair is on Tuesday, February 21.

Student Planners

Hello Families,
 
I wanted to let you know we just started using planners yesterday. This will be a great way to help students keep organized and hold them accountable for finishing homework. Each night, students will bring home planners and need to get a parent signature. They must bring their planner back to school the next day and I will check that they have it signed.

Week of 2/6

Hello Families!
 
Here is a look at our week:
 
Language Arts: We will continue learning about figurative language by focusing on alliteration, onomatopoeia, and rhyme scheme. There will be no new spelling list this week, but we will be taking the spelling test from last week since school was cancelled on Friday.
 
Math: We will finish up Unit 4 by reviewing and then taking the test on Wednesday. On Thursday we will start a new unit about division.
 
Science: We will be starting to learn about magnets and take notes.
 
Social Studies: We will be finishing up learning about the Southeast Region. Students will take the the Chapter 6 Test and states and capitals test next week. Remember to practice for this test a little bit each day!
 
Reminders:
-Red, White, and Blue Day/Free Dress Day is on Friday, February 17.
-The World Culture Fair is on Tuesday, February 21.

Class Party 2/3

Hello Parents,
 
Since school was cancelled on Friday, we will be rescheduling our classroom movie/snack party to this Friday, February 10 to celebrate earning 75 shout outs this year! Students are allowed to bring a snack and drink for themselves. They may bring any snack they'd like, but they are not allowed to share with others. I will also be bringing snacks for the class in case students forget.

Hello Families!
 
Here is a look at our week:
 
Language Arts: We will continue learning about figurative language this week including, hyperboles, personification, and alliteration. We will take a quiz on hyperboles and personification on Wednesday and a spelling test on Friday.

Math: We will be continuing Unit 4 by talking about area, multi-step number stories, and lattice multiplication. We will have a quiz on Thursday.
 
Science: We will finish up learning about circuits and take a test on Wednesday. We will also start a unit on Magnetism.
 
Social Studies: We will be continuing Chapter 6 learning about the Southeast Region. Please make sure your child is practicing their Southeast Region state and capitals packet frequently so they will be prepared for taking the test when we are finished with this unit!
 
Reminders: 
-The last day to bring in money for the Valentine's Day fundraiser is on Tuesday.
-Conferences will be held on Monday, February 6th. Please make sure you sign up for a conference on Pick a Time. I look forward to seeing everyone at conferences!

Language Arts: We will starting to learn about figurative language this week including, similes, metaphors, and idioms. We will take a similes and metaphors quiz on Wednesday and an idioms quiz and spelling test on Friday.

Science: We will be starting a new Unit on Energy this week.
 
Social Studies: We will be starting Chapter 6, which focuses on the Southeast Region of the United States. I sent home a practice packet with all the states and capitals of the Southeast Region on Friday. Please make sure students are using this packet frequently so they will be prepared for taking the test when we are finished with this unit.
 
Reminders:
We are doing Valentine's Day Fundraiser. If your child is interested in buying a card and a carnations for a friend, teacher, family member, etc. please have them bring in $1. If they would like to purchase multiple carnations, please send them with the exact amount! The last day to purchase cards and flowers is on Tuesday, January 31.

Hello Families!
 
Here is a look at our week:
 
Language Arts: We will be learning about poetry and taking a quiz at the end of the week. There will be no spelling due to a shortened week. 
 
Math: We will continue with Unit 4 learning about multidigit multiplication. Students will take a quiz on the first four lessons of this unit at the end of the week.
 
Science: We will be finishing up our States of Matter Unit by reviewing and taking a test on Thursday. Then we will start a new unit about Energy on Friday.
 
Social Studies: Students will take two tests this week. The first test will be on the states and capitals of the Northeast Region on Thursday. The second test will be on Chapter 5 which also focuses on the Northeast Region.

Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing break. 
 
Here is a look at our week:
 
Language Arts: We will be completing a New Year's writing project and learning about point of view. There will be no spelling due to a shortened week.
 
Math: We will be learning about comparing, ordering and rounding decimals. Then, we will review everything we've learned about decimals and fractions for our Unit 3 test next week.
 
Science: We will learn about density, mixtures, solutions, and start a lesson about oil spills in our States of Matter unit. 
 
Social Studies: We will continue with Chapter 5, focusing on the Northeast states. Please make sure to practice the states and capitals packet of the Northeast at home!

We had a great time on our field trip to the Bell Museum last week!

Language Arts: This week, we will continue to review characters, plot and setting. We will also be talking about making inferences. We will take a spelling test on Friday.

Welcome to Trimester 2!

Here is a look at our week:

Language Arts: Students did an amazing job finishing up and presenting their animal reports last week. This week, we will be reviewing and taking a test on Unit 1. Then we will start Unit 3 by reviewing the setting, plot and characters. Students will take a spelling test on Friday.

Hello Families,
 
I hope everyone had a nice and relaxing break!
 
Here is a look at our week:
 
Language Arts: We will be creating posters for our animal reports. Students will present animal reports on Thursday. There will be no spelling this week.
 
Math: We will be taking a quiz on Monday about what we've learned so far in Unit 3. Then we will learn about comparing and ordering fractions.
 
Social Studies: We will continue with Chapter 4 learning more about economics. We will also review and take the Chapter 4 Test.
 
Reminders: The last day of Trimester 1 is this Thursday, December 1. There is no school on Friday, December 2 of this week. Our field trip is next Thursday, December 8.

Winter Wonderland Tree Parade

We are starting to collect items for the Winter Wonderland Tree Parade! If you have any old or new holiday items you'd like to contribute to our classroom collection, please start sending them to school with your child. We will have a bin in the classroom where we will keep the items until the parade. Students will be able to use these items to decorate me on December 16. Families will be invited to the parade this year.

Week of 11/21

Hello Families,
 
Here is a look at our week:
 
Language Arts: We will be writing the final drafts of our animal reports. Students have been working so hard on this the past couple weeks! There will be no spelling due to the shortened week.
 
Math: We will continue with Unit 3 and learn about putting fractions on a number line and equivalent fractions.
 
Social Studies: We will continue with Chapter 4 learning more about the economy.
 
Reminders: There is no school on Wednesday-Friday of this week. Please make sure your child has a jacket, snow pants, a hat, mittens, and boots since we already have snowy weather!
