Week of the 2nd

Hello 3rd grade families,
See below for this week's schedule and important information!
 
Schedule
Reading/Writing: This week we are reading historical fiction
stories and practicing going back into the story to find our
answers. We are also reviewing prefixes, suffixes, and base
words.

Math: We are continuing learning different strategies for
solving multiplication problems and working on multiplying by 6 through 9s. Start practicing memorizing facts at home!

Science: We will continue learning about climate and weather.
 
Social Studies: We will be working on a world map, labeling the
continents and oceans. By the end of the week see if your child can list all 7
continents and 5 oceans!
 
This week's spelling list:

Challenge words: enjoyable poisonous 
 
- Homework is short, if you are looking for
extra work, have your child log into iXL

- New papers are going home this week. They
are extra practice at home and do not need
to be returned.

- Nov 21st: Dress like a teacher day
- Nov 24th: End of trimester
- Nov 26-28: No School

We are also reviewing prefixes, suffixes, and base words.

Math: We are continuing learning different strategies for
solving multiplication problems and working our way through multiplication facts for 6 through 9. Start practicing memorizing facts at home!

Science: We will continue learning about climate and weather.

Social Studies: We will continue learning about the land and
water on Earth.

Math: We will continue working on our multiplication facts and mastering different methods for solving multiplication problems.
 
Language Art: We will finish up the final drafts of our opinion essays about being an astronaut and continue working on subjects like reading realistic fiction, suffixes, and plural/singular nouns.
 
Science: We will begin to learn about weather and climate.
 
Social Studies: We will begin learning about land and water.

Hope you've had a relaxing weekend. See below for this week's schedule and important dates.
 
Agenda
 
Reading/Writing: This week we are reading fiction stories and
practicing going back into the story to find our answers. We
are also reviewing suffixes and starting possessive plurals.

Math: We are continuing learning different strategies for
solving multiplication problems.

Science: We will be finishing our opinion piece on travel to
space and will learn about the Mars rover.

Social Studies: We will wrap up learning about Community with the creation of our own community posters and start  learning about the
land and water on Earth. 
 
 
Spelling- No spelling this week due to no school on Thursday and Friday

- Oct 16-17th: No School (MEA)
- Oct 28th: BINGO for Books
- Oct 29th-30th: Conferences (an email about signing up will be sent out from the school soon.)

Reading/Writing: This week we are reading fiction stories and
talking about point of view and what a character might be
thinking. We are also learning about suffixes and spelling plural
words.

Math: We are introducing multiplication this week, focusing on
counting equal groups.

Science: We will continue learning about the moon. Look for
the moon in the night sky and talk about how it is changing.
We are also working on an opinion writing piece about
whether we would like to be astronauts.

Social Studies: We will be reviewing our communities unit and
taking a quiz.

Week of 9/29

Hello 3rd grade families!
This is the first of my weekly posts which will provide you with information on our plan for 3rd grade for the week. This will include information like what lessons we'll be covering, our spelling list, and any important events that would be coming up. Please make sure to subscribe on my class page so that you receive this post via email!
 
 
Agenda
Homework is sent home on Monday and due on Friday! Make sure to check in with your child to see that it gets done, otherwise they have to spend time on Friday working on it! If you are looking for extra work for them, you can have them log in to IXL and practice lessons. Please reach out if you need login codes.
 
Reading/Writing: This week we are reading fiction stories and
talking about main idea and inferences. We are also learning
about suffixes and spelling plural words and beginning the construction of our opinion essay about space.

Math: We are reviewing our skills so far this year and we will
be taking a math test at the end of the week. Topics to be covered will be place value, comparing numbers, addition, subtraction, and rounding

Science: We will continue learning about the moon. Look for
the moon in the night sky and talk about how it is changing.

Social Studies: We will be focusing on the different types of
communities.
 
Spelling List
Each week I send home a spelling list with the students on Monday and they take a quiz on Friday. I'll also be posting the word list, see below:
