Our Week at a Glance
January 26th-30th
Hello second grade families!
 
Reminder to please dress for the weather!
 
Please send your child to school with a healthy snack each day.  We will have a 10 minute snack time in the morning, so please send in something that your child can eat within that time frame.  Some healthy snacks include:  fruit, vegetables, popcorn, crackers, etc.  Please NO candy, donuts, cookies, etc. for snack.  Water bottles are allowed at school with water only!
 
Math: We are starting unit 6 this week! Focusing on number operations and stories. Being able to read and create graphs with data. We will work on solving multistep word problems. Along with some estimating as well with quantity and difference using number stories. 
 
Homework: Your student will have math and spelling homework each week to complete.  Homework will go home on Monday’s and needs to be completed and returned the following Monday February 2nd.
*Please have your student read for at least 20 minutes every night*
 
Language Arts: We are starting unit 6! Looking into cultures, traditions, and learning about lessons/morals from stories we read. Along with how these lessons can be connected to our own lives. Thinking about what we can learn from other cultures and traditions as well! 
 
Spelling: We are working with words that have the -oo sounds in them. This week our spelling words are… good, look, shook, stood, put, book, cook, foot, wood, push. 
*We will be having our spelling test on Friday!”
 
Social Studies:  We will be starting unit 4 in social studies! Discussing the idea of wants and needs. The differences they hold and how it relates to us. As well as understanding how they play a role in the community and daily choices we make.

January 20th-23rd
Hello second grade families!

Math: We are working through unit 5 learning all about addition and subtraction. Working on our basic facts along with 2 digits numbers. Along with building on our skills of counting money, number stories, and mental math strategies. We will be having our Unit 5 test on Thursday!
 
Homework: Your student will have math and spelling homework each week to complete.  Homework will go home on Monday’s and needs to be completed and returned the following Monday January 26th.
*Please have your student read for at least 20 minutes every night*
 
Language Arts: We are continuing unit 5 discussing technology and inventions. Looking closer at how technology can impact our community and way of life. Along with understanding how inventions created things we have today and how their use benefits people in our society. 
 
Spelling: We are working with words that have the -ou/ow sounds in them. This week our spelling words are… out, count, round, brown, town, mouth, owl, house, cow, now. 
*We will be having our spelling test on Friday!”
 
Social Studies:  We will be beginning Unit 4 this week!  This unit is all about goods and services and the people who supply them!  We will be discussing needs and wants, along with making choices.

Math: We are starting unit 5 that is all about addition and subtraction. Working on our basic facts along with 2 digits numbers. Along with building on our skills of counting money, number stories, and mental math strategies.

Homework: Your student will have math and spelling homework each week to complete.  Homework will go home on Monday’s and needs to be completed and returned the following Monday October 27th.
*Please have your student read for at least 20 minutes every night*
 
Language Arts: We will be spending the next few weeks in our Characters Learn and Grow unit.  We will be talking about creating mental images, as well as setting and plot.  Describing the characters in the stories is also something we will be working on in this unit.  A big portion of the unit is going to be spent retelling the stories we read!
 
Spelling: Our spelling words this week consist of ways to make the long i sound. Our spelling words for the week are pie, kind, child, tie, sky, high, dry, lime, light, bright.
