Week of 9/18

Hello 4th grade families,

This will be the start of our 3rd week and the students have begun to settle into their routines. We are still working on reviewing procedures and what we learned last year, but things are moving smoothly.

Language Arts: The students are reading independently and working on their writing every day, along with reviewing what it means to be a community of readers.

Math: We will spend the week reviewing division.

Social Studies: We will take our Chapter 1 test and begin Chapter 2 on America and its history.

Science: We will continue to learn about the different

*We will be taking the math FastBridge test on Tuesday, September 19 and the reading FastBridge test on Wednesday, September 20. We will take this test 3 times during the year. The results of this test will help me to know what each student needs in order to grow in math and reading.

Reminders:

September 21: Picture Day (envelopes were sent home last week)

September 29: Minnesota Sports Day/Free Dress Day

Please feel free to reach out to me. Have a great week!

Week of 9/5 and Week of 9/11

Hello 4th grade families,

In 4th grade we’ve passed the first week of school and it went great! We covered a lot of ground already in our subjects and we’re off to a great start on a productive and fun year! So far, we’ve reviewed and are working on the classroom routines and expectations, along with already starting the curriculum for math, science, language arts, and social studies. Next week we will delve further into each of the topics, as well as create our classroom rules.

Math: We have been working on reviewing what we learned in 3rd grade so that we have a solid foundation to work with when we start the new material. Last week we worked on remembering our addition strategies and this week we will work on subtraction.

Science: On Thursday, we started our first lesson in science. We discussed the different forms of energy to start and next week we will continue to discuss energy and motion.

Language Arts: We’ve been working on what it means to be a community of readers and how to be an active listener. We’ve also spent quite a bit of time reading throughout the day and writing about what we’ve read. This week we will dig deeper into why people write books and refine our skills at writing about several different topics

Social Studies: We briefly discussed geography and how to read maps on Thursday. Once we finish that, this week we will begin to cover the geography of the United States.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great week!

G5 eLearning Packet

Hello,

Attached is an eLearning packet. This packet will be sent home with your student. Please keep it in a safe place. It will be used if your student needs to learn from home in case of school closures due to weather. Thank you and let me know if you have any questions!

Book Fair!

Tomorrow is the start of the Athlos Book Fair! Students in Mr. Myhra's homeroom will be visiting the fair tomorrow during ELA. Money for purchasing books can be brought by the students tomorrow or funds can be added to a digital wallet. Directions to set up the wallet should be located on the book fair flier that was handed out to the students last week.

Recorders in Music!

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This year in music your student will be learning the recorder! This represents a wonderful opportunity to build musical skills such as note-reading, ensemble playing and music appreciation. Please see below for details on payment, recommended practice time, and cleaning of instruments.

Your student will receive a recorder that is theirs to keep. There is a $5 fee for recorders. This must be paid online on the Fees page of your Parent Portal account. Please do not send students to school with cash or checks. If your student already owns a recorder in good condition, they will not need to pay the $5 fee. If a student’s recorder becomes lost or too damaged to work correctly, a new one will be issued for an additional $5. Click here for instructions on how to make a payment through your Parent Portal. If you have questions about logging into your parent portal account, please contact Ms. Ferguson at Athlos’ front desk at (777) 763-8942.

I recommend that students keep their recorders and music packets in their backpack so they will always have them at home or at school. To make steady progress, I recommend that students practice for 10 minutes 4 times a week. If you need to sanitize your student's recorder, separate the instrument’s pieces and hand-wash them or wash them in the top rack of the dishwasher without the heated dry cycle.

Please feel free to reach out at [email protected] with any questions!

Thank you,
