Week at a Glance 3.13-3.17

Good Morning! Here's what we're doing in our first week of Trimester 3! We will have a spelling test on Friday, the words are listed on the first page.
 
For Language Arts, we are learning about nonfiction text structures. We will focus on Problem & Solution and Compare & Contrast text structures. In Math, we are working on subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. Students will take a quiz on Thursday. We will be reviewing Chapter 7 for Social Studies this week. Students will take the Midwest States and Capitals test and Chapter 7 test on Friday! Please be practicing states and capitals so they are ready for their test!
 
Reminders/Announcements:
- Friday (3/17) is Hat Day!
- MCA tests will take place after Spring Break. We are taking our Reading MCA on Tuesday, April 4th. We are taking our Math MCA on Tuesday, April 18th.
- Our Music Program is on March 21st. Students have been sounding amazing with their recorders!

Week at a Glance 3.6-3.10

I hope you all had a great weekend! Here's our plan for the week. We will not have spelling this week because there is no school on Friday (3/10).
 
In Language Arts, we will be learning about non-fiction text structures. For Math, we are continuing to learn about fractions. This week our focus is adding and subtracting fractions. In Social Studies, we are continuing to learn about the Midwest. Please make sure your student is studying their states and capitals at home! We're continuing to focus on MCA preparations during our science time. 
 
Students are starting to test for their music belts with their recorders! Our day for recorder belt testing is on Fridays! We are looking for pencil donations, we are running low in our classroom!

Week at a Glance 2.27-3.3

Here's what our week looks like! On Monday, we will take the spelling test from last week (Week 15)! The spelling words for this week are on the first page, that test will be on Friday!
 
In Language Arts, we will be continuing to learn about author's purpose and take a test on Wednesday! We will then start Unit 4, which focuses on nonfiction text structures. For Math, we will be learning about fractions! Students will be learning about mixed numbers, proper and improper fractions. We are taking the next couple weeks focusing on preparing for the MCA during our Science time. In Social Studies, we are starting chapter 7. Chapter 7 is about the Midwest! A packet will be going home with week with flashcards for the states and capitals.

Happy Monday! 
 
The World Culture Fair is tomorrow (2/21)! Please have students wear Blue, White, and Yellow or other clothes that represent Argentina!  We are so excited to see all the different cultures and share what we have learned about Argentina. 
 
We will have a spelling test this week, please practice the words that are on the first page. In Language Arts, we will be learning about Author's Purpose. For Math, we are starting Unit 5 which focuses on fractions! We are going to take a break in science to start preparing for the MCAs.

Here's our plan for the rest of the week. Our spelling words are on the first page, the test will be on Friday. In Language Arts we will finish with our poems and review for the test on Friday. For Math, we are working on our Long Division Unit, we will have a quiz at the end of the week. In Science, we are finishing our Magnets unit and preparing for the test. For Social Studies, we are going to be preparing for our World Culture Fair. The country we're learning about is Argentina!
 
Reminders: Tuesday February 14th, we will be celebrating Valentine's day. We will pass out carnations for students/families at the end of the day. Free Dress Day is on February 14th and 17th this week. Red, White, and Blue day is on Friday(2/17)!

Happy Monday!
 
For spelling this week, we will do the words from last week and take the test on Friday. In Language Arts, we will be learning about Onomatopoeia and Alliteration. For Math, we're review for Unit 4 and taking our test on Wednesday. We will then start a mini division unit. For Science, we're taking notes on magnets. In Social Studies, we are going to review Chapter 6 and take the tests on Friday. Please continue to practice your Southeast States and Capitals for the test!
 
World Culture Fair is on February 21st!

Good Morning! Here's what our week is going to look like. The spelling words for this week are listed on the first page. 
 
In Language Arts, we will continue learning about figurative language. We will continue working on idioms, hyperboles, personification, and begin alliteration. In Math, we will continue Unit 4 focusing on multiplication. We will be taking the Unit 4 Test next week. For Social Studies, we will continue chapter 6 and review for our test next week. Please remember to be practicing your Southeast states and capitals! In Science, we will be taking our test on circuits and begin our unit in magnetism.
 
Reminders:
- Money for the Valentine's Day fundraiser will be due Tuesday January 31st. If your student would like to buy a carnation, please send them with money on Monday or Tuesday.
- Conferences will be held on Monday February 6th. Please make sure you have a time signed up through Pick a Time. I look forward to seeing everyone at conferences to discuss your child's success!

Here is the Week at a Glance for the upcoming week. The spelling words are on the first page, the test will be on Friday!
 
In Language Arts, we will be finishing close reading poetry and taking a quiz on Monday. We will then transition into learning about figurative language. We're focusing on similes and metaphors this week! In Math, we will continue Unit 4. Unit 4 is all about multiplication. For Science, we will begin our Electromagnetism Unit. We will be learning about electricity and circuits this week. In Social Studies, we are continuing Chapter 6 which is on the Southeast States and Capitals. Please make sure you are practicing your Southeast States and Capitals at home. We will be taking the test within the next two weeks.
 
Reminder: Keep bringing in money for the Valentine's Day Fundraiser. If you would like to purchase a flower for a sibling, friend, or a teacher bring in $1. Carnations must be purchased before January 31st.

Here's a look at what we're working on this week! We do not have spelling this week because of the shorter week. 
 
For Language Arts, we are continuing to practice our Poetry Close Reading. Students will take a quiz on Friday. In Math, we will be starting Unit 4! Unit 4 will be focusing a lot on multiplication. For Science, we are finishing our States of Matter unit and taking a test this week. After that, we will start our Energy unit. We are starting Chapter 6 in Social Studies this week. Students will be learning and practicing the Southeast States and Capitals. Flashcards will be sent home this week for students to practice their states and capitals!
 
Pajama Day is Friday (1/20)!
 
Reminders: We are doing our Valentine's Day fundraiser this year! If you would like to buy a flower for a friend, teacher, family member, etc. please bring $1 to purchase! The last day to purchase carnations is January 31st.

Science Project Materials

We are doing a States of Matter project in Science soon! If you are able to, please donate any materials. 
 
Materials needed: popsicle sticks, yarn, vegetable oil, medicine syringes, plastic spoons, paper towels, disposable baking sheets, bag of sand, and plastic cups. 
 
We would greatly appreciate any donations!

Here is our plan for the week! We have a spelling test on Friday, the words are on the first page. We are learning about Point of View and starting a Poetry unit in Language Arts. For Math, we are finishing Unit 3 and taking our Unit 3 test on Thursday. In Science, we are continuing to learn about States of Matter. Please continue to bring in materials for our science project! We are reviewing Chapter 5 in Social Studies and will be testing on Friday. Please make sure you are continuing to practice the Northeast States and Capitals at home. The students will need to know where the Northeast states are on a map and the capital of that state.
 
We are doing Valentine's Day Fundraiser again this year! If your child is interested in buying a card and a carnations for a friend, teacher, family member, etc. please have them bring in $1. If they would like to purchase multiple carnations, please send them with the exact amount!

Welcome Back! I hope you are all staying warm and enjoyed your break.
 
Here is what we are doing this week. We will not have spelling because of the short week. In Language Arts, we will be doing a writing project and starting Point of View. For Math, we are going to review and continue with Unit 3. We will be taking our Unit 3 test next week! In Science we are continuing to learn about States of Matter. In Social Studies we will finish Chapter 5 which focuses on the Northeast. We will continue practicing the States and Capitals of the Northeast. Please make sure you are also practicing at home. The students will need to know where the states are on the map and know its capital as well!

Week at a Glance 12.12-12.16

Here is what we're working on the last week before break! We have Animal Day/Free Dress Day on Friday! We also have a spelling test on Friday, the words are on the first page. 
 
For Language Arts, we are going to start inferencing after finishing Tacky. In Math, we will continue to work on Unit 3. We are starting to learn more about the relationship between fractions and decimals. In Science, we are continuing to learn states of matter. We are learning about the Northeast in Social Studies. Students will continue to match states and capitals in the Northeast. Students took home a Northeast states and capitals packet to practice and memorize, please help them with practice at home. 
 
Reminders: Our Tree Parade is on Friday (12/16). If your are able, please bring in old decorations, ornaments, etc. so we can use it for our parade! Also, please have your students bring in items for our science experiment! I sent home a letter explaining what we will need for our experiment. Please let me know if you have any questions!
